After a UFO crash on a mountain family’s land in the 1800’s, fantastical things begin to take place.
In the early 1800’s the Humprey family moves from the eastern part of Virginia to the Appalachian mountains to better themselves. The mother dies while giving birth to her third son, Billiam, who has dwarfism and is nonverbal, but also is a genius.
One night a UFO flies on their land trying to zap their milk cow. Alfred Humphrey and his three boys rush outside to save her, resulting in a UFO crash which bestows magical properties to the family’s two breeding hogs. Martha learns how to fly and Jimmy shoots laser beams from a newly-grown eye. The young savant learns how to ride the flying sow, and they strap the laser shooting one underneath her and amass a fortune clearing timber and processing the lumber. After an evil monopolist learns about the magical pig pair, he sets out to acquire the magical livestock, by any means necessary. Billiam Humphrey has to grow up quick and use all of his wits to help his family fight the evil man’s plans.
The Appalachian Tatermash Tale is a wholesome middle grade novel aimed at the enjoyment of young boys, though girls and people of any age will enjoy this novel. Packed with GenX references and tons of goofy humor, this is a great book for parents and grandparents to read to their young.
