When Gideon wakes up one morning covered in bruises, he has two questions: what happened at the gay bar last night, and are blackouts an unexpected side effect of HRT? The culprit is VictoryInPersistence, a being of pure, condensed magical energy that's become trapped in his body with him.
Turns out elves exist. And vampires and sylvan and wizards and a not to mention other inhabited planets. Now this listless, 20-something, part-time comic shop employee / part-time college student has superpowers… sort of. Enough, at least, he feels he needs to take saving the world into his own hands.
Along the way, he meets, Rain, an elf-sylvan transfemme tabletop player, and Nathan, an asexual incubus. Both part of a vast community of "magical" people living in secret.
The problem that he keeps failing to realize is how big a target becoming a "demon-borne" has made him.
