The sea was once infused with oxygen so that the sea spirits could settle in it. But the ancient enchantments are failing, and the oxygen is disappearing.
Belis is a scavenger who dreams of joining the Tide Guard, an elite group of warriors who protect the sea. But before she can join them, she must prove herself as a squire.
Her assignment seems simple: Guarding a crystal ball she’s not allowed to look at. It contains all the knowledge of the sea and might be the key to replenishing the oxygen. But Belis begins to feel a strange connection to the crystal ball the longer she stays near it. And when an enemy with ancient powers begins hunting her, Belis realizes she wasn’t told everything about the crystal ball.
Because the sea is dying. And Belis must decide whether to return home or become the warrior the sea spirits need.
