Spencer Paige has spent her life trying not to be seen.
A quiet Detroit grocery stocker raised by her grandmother, Spencer learned early that survival meant staying small, staying useful, and never asking for more. When her grandmother dies, Spencer closes the nonprofit they built together, sells the family home, and settles into a life of invisibility—until loyalty to her outspoken best friend, Ramona Craig, pulls her into a world she was never meant to enter.
What begins as a discreet favor quickly turns into something far more dangerous.
Delanie Parson is wealthy, powerful, and dying—and she has a request that shatters every moral boundary Spencer was raised to respect. Delanie wants Spencer to become her substitute wife. A carefully controlled proxy. A temporary stand-in for her formidable husband, Marques Parson, whose life—and company—cannot afford disruption.
Contracts. NDAs. Rules.
And ninety-six hours that will change everything.
As Spencer is groomed, tested, and pushed into the Parson orbit, she finds herself caught between class divides, coercive power, and an attraction she never expected. Marques is cold, commanding, and impossible to read—but beneath his control lies something dangerously compelling. Something that makes Spencer question whether this arrangement is merely transactional… or transformational.
Helping Ramona could cost Spencer her integrity.
Desiring Marques could cost her heart.
And surviving the Parson world may require her to become someone she no longer recognizes.
In His Substitute Wife… My Best Friend: loyalty collides with power, consent blurs under pressure, and one woman must decide how much of herself she’s willing to sacrifice for the people she loves—and for the woman she might finally become.
Dark. Emotional. Morally complex.
This is a provocative romance about survival, agency, and desire in the spaces where love and control intertwine.
