Gene Knights grew up in Western New York, where he suffered from the oppressive forces of lake-effect snow. Once he was old enough, he used the excuse of higher education to escape to the Midwest, where he was unprepared to face the violent winds and blistering hot summers. Upon completion of his degree from the University of Illinois, he sought out the climate utopia known as the Pacific Northwest, where he quickly discovered an error in his expectations. After working many years in the service industry, he decided to take his chances overseas and began a career in China and Japan as a teacher and speechwriter. These days, he can be found in various parts of the world, writing his books, training in Muay Thai gyms, or recovering from it.
