Deep in an unknown forest, the Fairkind have lived under a malevolent ruler, Queen Duplicity, for the past twenty years.
Eighteen-year-old Tonic, an unbeloved soldier in the Fairkind army, wants nothing more than to prove himself to the throne. So, when he receives a tip about the location of his queen’s mortal enemy after years of failed searching, he sets off for the human realm, determined to capture the woman and redeem his name.
Far away from their forest, nineteen-year-old Kismet lives a simple life on a ranch with her dad, stepmom, and little brother, but she’s keeping a big secret from everyone outside of her immediate family: magical powers that she cannot control. She’s tried to hide them most of her life, but they still manage to seep through—usually at the most inconvenient of times.
Upon their meeting, the two will change each other’s lives forever. Whether they will tear each other apart or band together to challenge the evil that has taken root in the Fairkind forest, however, remains to be seen. The future is never set in stone.
