Crime reporter Cody Moran meets a woman who claims her father was Jack Boone, the man long associated with Kansas City's infamous Queen Killings fifty years ago. Skeptical, Cody is drawn back to one of the city's darkest chapters.
A serial killer stalks 1977 Kansas City, and a task force that includes Maria Navarro, the city's lone female homicide detective, is running out of leads. Meanwhile, Jack “Joker” Boone is an alcoholic journeyman baseball player in a dying independent league. On the backside of a career that saw none of the spotlight, he is suddenly thrust into one when the killer leaves a note alongside the latest victim.
