Keek Eluran came to Earth looking for dinosaurs. He found humans instead.
On Salaris, civilization solved most of its problems millions of years ago. Weather is controlled, survival is guaranteed, and knowledge can pass directly from one mind to another. For Keek, a young Salaran explorer searching for something his perfect world can no longer give him, Earth is gloriously unfinished.
His first attempt at contact ends with police, panic, and an emergency escape. Things do not become much more sensible from there. Keek learns to queue, gets a job, discovers coffee, friendship, music, bureaucracy, love, loss, and begins finding meaning in the ordinary things he once came only to observe.
Told through one hundred Earth Logs, LURNIK follows an alien trying to understand humanity while slowly realizing that observation works both ways. The longer Keek stays, the less certain he becomes about which world he is actually studying, and which one is changing him.
Funny, philosophical, strange, and deeply curious about what it means to be human, LURNIK: The Earth Logs of a Salaran Explorer is a story about seeing an ordinary world for the first time.
