Brilliant physician Hope Allerd, M.D., joins the White House staff, appointed by President Martha Conchrane after she stops a military coup. The President calls Hope “the angel on my shoulder.” However, Martha Conchrane is starting to lose her grip on reality. After surviving an assassination attempt, she accuses China and tasks Hope with finding the assassin. If Hope fails, the President threatens to unleash nuclear hell on the People’s Republic of China.
After witnessing the assassination attempt, Hope is struck by the inexplicable way the would-be killer vanishes into thin air. The disappearing act leads Hope to an unlikely theory: the shooter is a magician. Despite the FBI’s rejection of her idea, she travels to Las Vegas in search of the assassin and gets caught up in a dark, dangerous world of murder-for-hire. As the President's paranoia worsens, she sparks a series of escalating international incidents with China. The clock is ticking as the world edges closer to the brink of World War III.
