Everyone at Haven fears the patient behind the mask. They should be afraid of Haven.
When twenty-three-year-old James is sent to fix a burst pipe at a crumbling psychiatric hospital, he encounters Mika, the facility’s most unsettling patient. Committed since she was sixteen, she refuses to speak, hiding behind an intricate wooden mask that keeps everyone at a distance. Then, the first time they’re alone, she breaks her silence.
Claiming she doesn’t belong there, Mika begs for his help, challenging James’s carefully guarded skepticism. But the deeper he digs, the more disturbing the truth becomes. Staff are hiding secrets, patients are becoming more erratic, and a string of unsolved murders appears to trace back to the same place. Beneath it all lies a seemingly dormant cult whose reach extends far past the walls of Haven Psychiatric.
As James struggles with his growing bond with Mika, he starts experiencing vivid nightmares and hallucinations he can no longer write off as exhaustion. With each new question about Haven—and himself—his world becomes increasingly distorted. If he can’t piece together Mika’s past and break the hospital’s suffocating grip on him, he risks losing not only his sanity, but any chance of getting her out alive.
