Sometimes the best Christmas present is the one you absolutely did not order.
Gretchen Van Maple has one goal this Christmas: impress her parents.
After years of being single, she's finally ready to prove that her life is perfectly on track. So she's doing what any sensible, thirty-something woman in the future would do—she's buying herself a boyfriend.
Well… technically, she's buying a fifth-generation companion android.
He'll cook. He'll clean. He'll keep her company. He'll look fantastic on her arm at Christmas dinner. And, if things go according to plan, he'll finally convince her old-fashioned parents that their daughter has found herself a nice, stable man.
There's just one little problem.
The man who arrives isn't an android. He's the delivery guy.
He's also the man Gretchen has been secretly chatting with online for months—and after discovering that she's ordered an android, he's decided there's no way in hell he's going to let some expensive machine take his place.
So he does what any completely rational man would do.
He steals the android, climbs into the shipping crate, and delivers himself to Gretchen's door.
Now he has to pretend to be a robot.
Unfortunately, Gretchen's new “android” can't cook, can't clean, has absolutely no idea how a domestic appliance works, and keeps forgetting that he's supposed to be made of circuits instead of flesh and blood.
But Gretchen is beginning to wonder if there's something strangely familiar about him.
Then the real android arrives, just in time for Christmas.
Now Gretchen has two gorgeous companions, a very important dinner with her parents, and absolutely no idea which one is supposed to be her boyfriend.
It's Christmas. It's absurd. It's spicy.
And somebody is about to have a very interesting holiday.
