She spent years controlling the pain. Now she has to control what she’s becoming.
At nineteen, Lizzy Taylor has been cutting herself for years, making the scars on the outside match the ones she carries inside. Physical pain is easier to deal with than mental pain. It gives her mind a place to focus and a sense of control in her life. Then one night, a fresh cut heals in an instant, and her only way of coping disappears with it.
Soon she discovers that creatures from myth exist and that they begin as humans who’ve suffered mental trauma. People who undergo the transformation are known as the Changed, and Lizzy’s has already begun.
If Lizzy wants to keep her friends, her family, and any hope of a normal life, she has to slow it down. Healing from her past may be her only chance, but that means doing the one thing she has spent years avoiding: facing what she can’t control.
She also learns an ancient order of knights is actively hunting these creatures. When Lizzy stumbles into their attempt to capture a kitsune, the confrontation accelerates her Change, stripping away whatever time Lizzy had left to be human.
What emerges from the transformation is far more volatile than she’d imagined.
Lizzy only thought she had control problems before.
