Eugene Brill is a South African-born writer, naturalist, and lifelong student of history. After careers in finance, diamond mining, jewelry, and marketing, he turned to historical fiction—drawing on decades of international business experience, extensive travel, and fluency in four languages to bring the late twentieth century to life.
He founded The Wannabe Naturalist® and built a loyal community of readers who love nature without pretending to be experts. His fascination with the natural world continues through nature books, magazines, photography, and his gardening blog, Gardeners Know All the Dirt.
Influenced by his South African upbringing and a lifelong curiosity about people and places, his fiction explores history, identity, ambition, guilt, and redemption.
His debut novel, Diamonds and Destiny—first book in The Wild Diamond Chronicles—draws on it all.
Eugene lives in North Carolina with his wife, a lovable Yorkshire terrier, and a garden that never quite stays weed-free.
