A saint, a squire, a criminal. Who will save their shattered world?
Infusing Celtic legend into science fantasy… Despite being mortal enemies, a saint and her disgraced former commander must solve the mystery of a failing sky and find the missing children of their shattered world.
Alexandra, devout judge-errant, has been deployed by her church to investigate a tremendous disaster—a panel of artificial sky enclosing her fragment of Shattered Earth has fallen. Ros Cré, an innocent market town below, has been destroyed.
All this during Yuletide. And while everyone wishes to celebrate the holiday season, nobody knows if the next panel, or the entire sky itself, is about to fail. Traveling to the tower of druidic scientists for answers, a lab-brewed monster lurches out of the mist to attack Alexandra’s caravan. A hydra-like serpent; and whatever poor victim it devours, the serpent grows a new head in their likeness.
Meanwhile, Alexandra’s disgraced former commander, Scrounger, is forced to clean up from the disaster at Ros Cré. While secretly looting the ruined houses, he discovers three boys from the town are still missing. If he can find them, he may be able to restore some semblance of lost honor. Or at least regain his former position.
Resolve the failing sky. Find the children. Challenging tasks for both—especially given the arch-scientist’s desire to obscure his own role in the disaster. Other scientists may hold partial clues which Alexandra and Scrounger must collect while also navigating further lab-brewed monsters, enemy saints, and all manner of thieves and mercenaries gathered at this year’s Yuletide festival… all while harboring resentment for past crimes inflicted upon one another.
