Will Diana Puckett find her brother Jacob before it's too late?
Set in Watauga County, North Carolina in 1923, Diana Puckett and her soon-to-be sister-in-law Jessica Reece take the case after Diana’s brother Jacob goes missing.
At first, deputy sheriff David Martin is hesitant to report fellow deputy and best friend Robert Puckett to his agency, but having turned to the bottle, he’s not fit to protect and serve. Always jealous of his friend’s marriage, David begins to see an opportunity to take advantage of Robert’s addiction. If he can cut Robert out of the picture, then he can marry Robert’s wife Margaret. When an electrical fire breaks out that burns half of Blowing Rock’s business district, he sets up Robert to be accused and arrested for it, despite his innocence. What he couldn’t foresee is Robert letting his son Jacob take the blame for starting the fire.
In her heart, 18-year-old Diana Puckett knows her brother is innocent. Teaming with her brother’s fiancée Jessica Reece, Diana sets out to find out the truth and set her brother free from jail, but before the two young women can prove Jacob’s innocence, he disappears. Deputy Martin claims that he escaped and will suffer further consequences, but Diana knows of Martin’s dispute with her father, and doesn’t trust him. To further complicate the matter, Jessica fears her father Pastor Howard is involved. Where did Jacob go, and who is responsible for his disappearance?
