Dabria is an atheist in a world suddenly filled with gods.
The reign of the Lord God of Chaos has finally ended. The other ancient gods return to fight for dominion of a beleaguered world, bringing with them their influence and divine magic. But Dabria doesn’t believe in them, knowing magic needs no divinity. She trusts in sense and reason to guide her life.
But the gods aren’t the only ones to return. A mammoth dragon arrives, incinerating buildings and people, trapping her friends and family underground. To save them, Dabria joins her friend, Baju of the glaeba people, as he and the other survivors flee to Baju’s home city where an army awaits. The way is fraught with shadowy forces and zealots. The fickle emperor’s court itself is full of intrigue and religious fervor, where a misspoken word means death. Meanwhile, food and water are running out for those who are trapped.
Can Dabria convince a devout people who have enjoyed hundreds of years of safety and comfort to go and fight a dragon so large it blots out the sky?
