A talented young songwriter faces her difficult past, to find her voice and open herself to love.
A year ago, Iz Beaufort—a feisty and talented foster kid—auditioned and actually got into a prestigious musical school by playing fast and loose with a few laws.
Now, although she’s incredibly happy in her new school and in a genuinely good foster home for the first time, she can’t figure out why she still feels like she has to be on high alert with everything and everyone. And she’s not at all sure what to do about Teo, the cute superstar of the school, who she sort of kissed last spring before ghosting him all summer out of genuine terror at the idea of an actual relationship with a real human being.
As Iz struggles to find her voice, she begins to realize that before she can move forward, she has to make peace with the young girl she used to be. If she can name and heal her past, she can take her first steps toward a future that includes friends, family, and even love.
