A mysterious murder. Memory-recording technology. A forgotten friend who no longer exists.
Makayla Winter discovers indisputable evidence of a longtime childhood best friend she has no memory of. There’s nothing online about this mysterious girl, and not a single person remembers her. In fact, aside from her presence in Makayla’s old photos, diaries, and home videos, it’s as if Caroline Bennett doesn’t exist at all.
Officer Sam Winter, Makayla’s husband, is simultaneously caught up in the investigation of an unexpected murder in their small mountain town. Unfortunately, the experimental new technology allowing the police to view witnesses’ memories often proves unreliable, as human memory is notoriously malleable.
Despite frustrating technology, an uncooperative police department, and strange behavior from their neighbors, Sam and Makayla are determined to uncover what’s happening around them.
But sometimes, it’s safer to not know anything.
