The Nighttimes is a YA historical fiction / gothic fantasy novel set in San Francisco spanning the decades between the 1906 and 1989 earthquakes which racked the city. Through the eyes of our main characters, we observe the history and evolution of San Francisco as it grows and changes, often leaving ghosts and bones in its wake. It is a story of family, both those found and born into, and how we stay entangled across time and space with those closest to us. While the novel deals with death and the afterlife, it is never grotesque or violent. Instead, it is a celebration of existence. The tone remains ethereal and occasionally strange. This not a romance. Rather it is a story about the bonds of family that outlast even death.
