Esmeralda Stone writes the kinds of stories she wants to read. Stories filled with people she’d like to know, doing things she wishes she had time to do. Her character-driven books center on strong women who don’t apologize for who they are, and the men who stand beside them. There’s usually a mystery, often something going wrong, and always a body or two—because love stories are more interesting when a life is on the line.
At the heart of her work is the belief that no one is ever too much—or not enough—to be loved. Her stories explore heavier topics such as loss, grief, mental health, and guilt, layered with dark humor, open-door intimacy, a touch of quirk, and emotional honesty. She writes romance not as an escape, but as something earned alongside real-life complications, moral gray areas, and the occasional bad decision.
Esmeralda has a background in investigative and technical writing from her time in the military and later worked as a technical writer and editor for the Forest Service. She holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in creative writing from Southern New Hampshire University.
