Dana Birkmour writes historical fantasy forged at the crossroads of myth, magic, and the half-remembered histories of our world. Drawing on a background in environmental science, education, and traditional herbal medicine, her stories blend the tactile grit of ancient landscapes with the wild, uncanny forces that move beneath them.
Before returning home to Australia, Dana lived and worked across seven countries—from Nigeria to South Korea to the deserts of Egypt—and she still draws on those years of cultural intersection, border-crossing, and unfamiliar horizons. Her novels explore what happens when worlds collide: empire and wilderness, gods and mortals, duty and desire.
When she isn’t writing, Dana can be found wandering rainforest trails in Northern Australia, brewing herbal tonics, or teaching her daughters the folklore of boundary places. She shares her home with her husband, two daughters, and a Rhodesian Ridgeback who firmly believes he is an indoor creature of comfort.
Fantasy forged of myth, legend, and the forgotten moments of history.
