I began writing mysteries, took the off-ramp to sci-fi, and then settled into plain old storytelling. Now I'm back with a new story. Novels about gay men tend to be slotted into two categories: literary or romance. My novels, I hope, fall somewhere in between. I make no pretense of being the next Stuart Douglas or Ocean Vuong, but neither do I write with pre-fab characters or too many tropes. But I do write about romance, otherwise known as love. The absence of love, the yearning for love, and the achievement of love are at the core of these stories—seasoned with wit, sex and adventure.
I live in Montreal with my partner not far away from the child we raised. I live in French, write in English, and work in both. I try to bring that experience to my novels. All my protagonists are faced with the challenge and excitement of loving someone from another world. I’ve been there. It’s worth the trip.
