J. A. Megara spent twenty-five years as a podiatric surgeon before finally putting the stories in his head onto the page. A lifelong science fiction and fantasy reader, he brings a scientist's rigor to his fiction—the biology, medicine, and hard science beneath Seraphant are grounded in the real thing. He even built a full language for the book's dragons: over 1,200 root words and tens of thousands of derived forms, with a grammar and sound-rules shaped by the anatomy of a non-human mouth.
Seraphant: The Cycle of the Darkened Thread is his debut novel and the first book of a planned series.
When he's not writing or in the operating room, he can be found building furniture from raw timber, tending his saltwater reef tank, practicing ballroom dancing, or logging hours toward his pilot's license. He speaks three languages, has traveled to more than a dozen countries, and has been playing the piano since he was eight.
He lives in New Jersey with his family.
