Desiree began adult life as a paralegal after earning a BA in Paralegal Studies in 1991. The Reagan Recession put an end to her paralegal career, and when other career paths didn't pan out, she entered elementary school teaching in 2001. It was while teaching 4th grade that Desiree discovered her love of writing. She took a leave of absence to study the craft and ended up with an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University, Los Angeles. She also has a post-grad certificate in Rhetoric and Composition from California State University Dominguez Hills.
