Emma Hartley is an author and artist based in Maine. She weaves rich, character-driven narratives in her four acclaimed novels, The Nature of Entangled Hearts (2017), The Annealing of Aliza Bennett (2018), The Beauty of Fragile Things (2020), and Heartwood (2025). Her short fiction has earned awards for “The Baking Lesson” and “The Factory,” and she placed runner-up in the 2025 Maine Crime Wave Flash Fiction Contest with “All For Love.” When she’s not writing or sketching, Emma plays drums in an indie rock band, tends her garden, and explores Maine’s rocky shoreline.
