Maria Grey Ellis was born in the United States and spent her childhood and teenage years in Southeast Asia. She has lived all over the United States before eventually landing in the Pacific Northwest, where she has been happily weathering the rain ever since. She has been an Austen devotee since the age of twelve, when Sense and Sensibility pulled her in and never quite let go. Rules Weaken Near Salt Water is her first novel—though she won a writing award in second grade and has always counted that as her true debut.
