I was born in England and immigrated to New Zealand at the age of ten, old enough to remember exactly what it felt like to begin again somewhere unfamiliar. That early experience of slowly learning where I belonged has stayed with me ever since.
An early career with Air New Zealand took me around the world before I ever thought to write about it. Along the way, I became fascinated by the ways history quietly shapes people, families, and the lives they build.
Several visits to India drew me into the complex world of the British Raj, where remarkable achievements and profound injustices often existed side by side. While researching Victorian Britain and India, I found myself less interested in official history than in the lives it overlooked: the families, servants, guides, and children who lived between cultures.
Of Iron and Incense is my debut novel, exploring family, duty, compassion, and the lives we build between the world we inherit and the one we choose.
I now live in Auckland, New Zealand, where I continue to write, research, and search for the stories history left untold.
