Alvin Svitzer is a writer fascinated by mythology, modern life, and the stories people tell themselves in order to survive.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, he later spent several years living in Amsterdam, where he developed an appreciation for how myths travel across cultures. His work is driven by a simple belief: the myths never left. They became nations, corporations, movements, technologies, and the narratives we use to explain ourselves to one another.
A lifelong reader and student of storytelling, Alvin is drawn to the questions hidden beneath every good tale. What do people fear? And what are they willing to sacrifice for belief or belonging or power?
He is the author of The Art of Killing Gods and writes regularly about mythology on his Substack, Mythic Matters.
When he isn’t writing, he’s usually reading, wandering through a city, or asking questions that accidentally turn into stories.
