I have been building towards writing for many years, drawing on almost five decades of life as a Muslim since accepting Islam at the age of 22.
Born in New Zealand and raised in Canada, I later lived for many years in Damascus and Amman while my children were young. My travels also took me through Central Asia and China, and I now live in Tunisia with my husband.
For much of my professional life, I worked as a French-English translator, which deepened my sensitivity to language and the care needed when carrying meaning from one culture into another.
My understanding of Islam has been shaped by study and teachers, but also by family life, changing circumstances, and the ongoing effort to keep faith at the centre of daily life. I write to help readers see Islam more clearly in a world where it is often misunderstood or misrepresented.
My first book, The Hijrah: The Journey That Changed History, traces the story from the first revelation in Makkah through the migration to Madinah and the Battle of Badr. It is written for Muslims and curious non-Muslim readers alike. I am also working on a book about spiritual growth and our return to Allah.
