I’m Jim Garlits, a writer from Wabash, Indiana. My most recent work grows out of a fairly simple question: What would it look like to build a life that is more rooted, more human, and more connected to home, parish, neighbors, and place?
I also write Good Soil magazine on Substack, where I explore Catholic culture, localism, permaculture, the thousand good books every child should read, community life, and the recovery of a more humane scale and pace.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually involved in trail advocacy, local community projects, parish life, or working around Willow Acre, the small permaculture homestead I share with my wife.
