Andrew Chatora is an award-winning Zimbabwean novelist, essayist, short-story writer and cultural commentator based in England. Born and raised in Mutare, Zimbabwe, he moved to the United Kingdom in 2002 and has since established himself as a distinctive voice in contemporary African and diasporic literature.
His debut novella, Diaspora Dreams (2021), was nominated for the National Arts Merit Awards (2022), while his third novel, Harare Voices and Beyond (2023), received a Silver Anthem Award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (2024). His other books include Where the Heart Is, Inside Harare Alcatraz and Other Short Stories, and Unstoppable March of the Human Condition: Essays on Politics and Literature.
Drawing on his experiences as a Zimbabwean-born English teacher living in Britain, Chatora explores themes of migration, identity, belonging, citizenship and power. His work is noted for its intellectual depth, emotional honesty and engagement with contemporary political, cultural and social issues.
