When I retired after thirty years as a teacher and principal in Vermont schools, I took up writing full-time. My first book, Horodno Burning, a novel about literature, freedom, and survival, won a gold medal in the 2022 Human Relations Indie Book Awards for Historical Realistic Fiction and was a finalist for the 2022 Independent Publishers of New England Genre Fiction Prize. Kirkus Reviews wrote: “This is a captivating book, historically authentic and movingly romantic. A mesmerizing tale of love in a time of extraordinary trials.”
My second novel, The Queen of New York, took four years to research, write, and revise. It will appeal to readers interested in 20th-century history, the enduring friendship among women, and the commitment and courage required to resist injustice.
