Sonia Soucek comes from central Europe, near Prague. She has loved reading fantasy and mythology since childhood, but took a winding path to writing—first studying economics in Prague and St. Gallen, completing her master’s degree, then training in Chinese medicine, all while raising four sons.
Her first books were fairy tales written for those sons: a weasel story for one, a raccoon-and-honey story for another. Then her oldest son asked to learn about King Arthur, and she found herself writing the Arthurian retellings that became The Rise of King Arthur. She is currently working on stories of Koschei the Deathless. In her retellings, she tries to convey the spirit of old stories, with all the wonder and the magic left in.
