Simon Bullock writes character-driven science fiction, speculative humour and psychological thrillers. His work often explores ordinary people caught inside impossible systems, with a focus on survival, loyalty, dry humour and the human cost of power.
His space opera novel The Driftborn, the first book in The Gate Origin Series, blends ancient mysteries, damaged ships, found family and gritty frontier survival. Inspired by the classic sense of wonder found in authors such as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Ursula K. Le Guin, Frank Herbert, Iain M. Banks, Douglas Adams and Anne McCaffrey, Simon writes science fiction where the universe is vast, dangerous and slightly badly maintained.
He is also the author of speculative humour written under the pen name Richard Randon, including Probably an Error in the System, and co-writes psychological thrillers with his wife, Jo-Anne van Gelder.
When he is not writing, Simon can usually be found thinking about broken machines, strange worlds, old secrets and stories where some doors are better left closed.
